Development of new wide spectrum, highly effective and durable antimicrobial surfaces

This project will focus on the most promising research pipeline towards antimicrobial surfaces, based on the covalently bonded surface functionalization with cationic agents. This technology has demonstrated to be effective killing a wide spectrum of microorganisms, even the more resisting ones, while overcoming the main challenges of current state of the art.

In this sense, ONYRIQ has already developed a surface functionalization technology for silicone substrates, applied to urinary catheters, that has displayed a reduction as an extent of 7 times of in vitro bacterial colonization comparing to other alternatives. With this project we aim at developing a whole antimicrobial platform, that can be tailored and implemented in different substrates such as rigid plastics, glass, metal, cellulosic or ceramic. This platform will enable to address different sectors such as medical device, healthcare or industrial towards appeasing the propagation and to contribute extinguishing the current pandemic and likely upcoming future ones.
